The curtain has fallen on the 8th edition of the Internet Governance Forum in Cameroon, held at the Yaoundé Conference Centre under the strategic theme: “From Fragmentation to Interoperability: Making Data the Foundation of Public Digital Infrastructure in Cameroon.”
The event brought together public authorities, the private sector, civil society, academics, and experts to discuss the major challenges facing Cameroon’s digital ecosystem: data sovereignty, cybersecurity, interoperability, universal access, and bridging the digital divide.
In this context, Camtel, through its Transport Business Unit, reaffirms its strategic role in the development of national digital infrastructure. The deployment of high-speed Internet networks, infrastructure security, sovereign data hosting, and the interconnection of government administrations are all essential levers for supporting the country’s digital transformation.
The establishment of a National Internet Exchange Point (IXP) also represents a major opportunity to enhance local traffic efficiency, improve interoperability, and contribute to optimizing connectivity costs.
Beyond figures and infrastructure, one conviction stands out: Cameroon’s digital transformation necessarily depends on data that is properly managed, secure, accessible, and interoperable.
This is a collective challenge. It calls for greater cooperation, infrastructure sharing, and innovation to build a resilient, inclusive, and sovereign digital ecosystem.
Together, let us make data a true foundation for Cameroon’s digital transformation.
