The semi-annual review of CAMTEL's Transport Business Unit (BUT) activities was held from 15 to 16 July 2026 at the Unit's headquarters in the Omnisport district of Yaoundé. This strategic and operational milestone was conducted under the leadership of its Deputy Director, Mrs. Bih Kuko née Tabot, with the objective of assessing the Unit's mid-year achievements, optimizing its processes, and further strengthening CAMTEL's position as a leading digital hub across Sub-Saharan Africa.
This important exercise provided an opportunity to evaluate operational and technical accomplishments while identifying the adjustments required to successfully achieve the objectives set for the second half of the year.
As a cornerstone of Cameroon’s national digital infrastructure and a recognized sub-regional leader, the Transport Business Unit continues to play a pivotal role in driving the growth and development of Cameroon Telecommunications (CAMTEL).
Several key performance indicators illustrate this strong momentum:
A major contributor to the company's financial performance, the Transport Business Unit enabled CAMTEL to record a net profit of FCFA 13.78 billion in 2025, representing an 8.4% increase compared with 2024. These figures were officially certified in the Auditor's Information Report dated 30 June 2026.
More than 12,000 kilometres of fibre-optic infrastructure now span the national territory, providing robust, high-capacity connectivity for telecommunications operators, enterprises, and major corporate clients.
Four international submarine cables with a combined capacity of 1.7 Tbps, which, together with Cameroon’s strategic geographic location, position the country as a major digital gateway and telecommunications exchange hub in Central Africa.
This mid-year review will enable Mrs. Bih Kuko née Tabot and her management team to fine-tune the Unit's critical operations, maximize network availability, strengthen the security of the national transport infrastructure, both terrestrial and submarine which remains exposed to multiple cyber threats, and, above all, ensure the highest level of service quality for national and international partners.
Following these strategic discussions, a series of dynamic initiatives have been introduced to further enhance the Unit's organizational efficiency. These measures are expected to improve the value delivered to Transport Business Unit customers while reinforcing the Unit's overall operational performance and long-term profitability.
